Report: Things That Not Suppose To Happen, Metalcore Fest, Miri

Posted in Reports on July 28, 2009 by nicefryday

Well, this post is not to report on the gig itself (coz, the gig been cancelled). It rather than just a story that I wanna share with all the readers. The previous post I did mention that there will be a gig call Metalcore Fest at Miri that happen on 25th July 2009. Well, the gig was cancelled on that day. I’ve been told that there’s a lot of problem occur during the gig day that lead to the cancelling the gig. I feel sorry for what has happen to the 2 band that comes all the way from Kuching to play on that day gig. Well, we do the talking later, here’s are the story/report that I wanna share with you guys. I’ve got it from Noel a.k.a Bugau, drummer of Escape the Plain View about what happening.

*******************************************************************

Another useless blog! Miri Tour/Holiday(report)
Current mood: angry
Category: Blogging
This is another useless piece of crap for you guys to read! But! Before you continue reading.. please read this first!

As a small band we don’t care if you guys don’t pay us even though we’re invited to play in a gig that is very far away from our hometown.

Secondly, we don’t really care what how small and how big is the venue whether it is held in the streets, house, jamming studio and shopping complex as long we can play and have fun with the locals!

Thirdly, we really2 appreciate if someone from the local scene guide us around the local town!

Fourthly, even though we can’t played in the gig because the gig is cancelled, at least please hang around with us.. we really appreciate it!

So here how it goes..

Once upon a time(24/7/09) we arrived in Miri Resort City approx 2100 hrs..We departed from Kuching around 2000 hrs..which is 8.00 p.m. Another band which if friend of ours(Destruction Zero), arrived in Miri around 7.00 a.m next day(25/7/09) by bus. For your info, travelling from Kuching to Miri by bus will took 13-16 hours depending on the driver and the number of cars along the highway.
We arrived in the inn..around 11 p.m with the help of my friend’s family for the transport from the airport to the inn which is not being provided by the organiser. Before that, we search the city on our own like a lost sheep left in the city. We found one, because normally all the inns in the city are full especially during weekends with people coming in all the way from Brunei which is not that far from Miri. Then we found one.. by luck that is.

We’re okay with that.

The next day(25/7/09). We suppose to have soundcheck around 10 a.m along with Destruction zero, because we can’t make it during the soundcheck the day before.
We arrived at the venue around 9.45 a.m. We wait for few hours for them to setting up the equipments.( we thought it was suppose to be 10 a.m! They told us to come early!)
So okay.. we wait..and wait until 2 p.m! While we wait for them to setting up those equipments.. We felt alienated because not even one of the organisers came to us and speak and hang around with us.. Okay we’re fine with that kind of hospilatality, we’re not that important. We are just mere outsiders that is waiting for our turn.
Then it’s 2 p.m! we’re setting up our own equipments.. Before we can really-really play A song for the sake of soundcheck, suddenly the management of the venue call it off, said that the gig is cancelled. WTF! The gig is CANCELLED during the last minute! So after a lot of bla-bla-blas with the management they said this, “itu organiser cakap sama boulevard(which is the supposed to be venue for the gig before being moved to parkson because there is another event that they paid more that the organiser..damn those capitallists! )
itu ada live band saja itu boulevard cakap ada live band saja..kami tidak tau itu ada 13 band main” meaning that.. the organiser(in the agreement between the organisers and the management) said to the management that there is only a live band performance.. A? imagine that.. just A BAND? not 13? So the gig is officially cancelled!! Wow..after what we all came through to play in the gig..they said cancelled?!

Then we tried to give suggestions to the organisers..about the venue..and so on.
After those bla-bla-blas. we can’t find a venue..so the gig is cancelled.. Then the organiser said this to us. “kmkorg chow lok ada show kt city fan” Meaning, dude we have to go, we have another show at the City Fan(a venue that is large and public, suitable for rockstars like them) and they left us in the venue without saying SORRY!

FUCK THOSE BASTARDS!

SO they letting go of us and their responsibility as the organisers just like that! Hey dude, we came all the way from Kuching! Which is hundreds of kilometres away from Miri and you just left without saying sorry?! We came from far away using our own money to pay the travelling costs and you gave us those ill-treatments?

Why don’t you come here and see how we treat you then!

So that later that night, we met Cannibal Landlord and Sentenced To Burn. We hang around a mall which is not that far from the venue. They suggest that we do jamm sessions in a jamming studio after all we can’t see each other in action on stage. So agree with them. Later that night, we went to Tudan which is near the Curtin Village that is located in the edge of Miri. We go to Tudan with the guys of Cannibal Landlord to guide us to Tudan(Thanks a lot guys). We have a lot of fun during the jamm session we manage to have fun drop some sweat! Thanks a lot guys! These guys have volunteer to provide us transports and guide around Miri even though they are not the organiser!

Third day(which is today 26/7/09),
We woke up around 11 a.m. We went out to have some lunch.
Then we crusing around Miri. Suddenly David our bassist realise he just lost his wallet!
His identification card and driving license are gone!
We get this ill-treatment, the gig is cancelled and now this?!
Probably luck is not on our side during this so called tour/holiday.

We arrived in Kuching around 6.10 p.m
We decided that (we know that we’re just a small band but we must defend our pride!) we want to claim all those money and expenses from the organiser.
We play for free! But if you treat us like shit! Then you have to pay our expenses!

Thank you for reading this so called report!

Thanks to Neil and his friends,Cannibal Landlord,Sentenced To Burn,Atie and Peggy for your hospitallity! We really appreciate it! Hope we can hang around with you guys next time!

Gig Report!: Sickening Art Part 2 from Faithcraft Production

Posted in Reports on July 22, 2009 by Asparagus Alfalfa

I stumbled upon this gig report by guys from Hereafter.

A little bit of excerpt:

SICKENING ART part:2
Dianjurkan oleh Derangement Project, Mobsterfest dan Evildead Productions

hereafter

Thank you Rammy!

A little update..

Posted in Reports, Shiterature on May 13, 2009 by Asparagus Alfalfa

Hello there good people.

I, Agent Asparagus Alfalfa, who have been running this blog, would have to take a short break (about 2 years) from fulltime running this blog.  This is because I will be away from the beloved Motherland Borneo.  During my departure, Mr Nicefryday would take over as the Editor of this blog, while I take a backseat updating any flyers/events that I stumbled upon.  Mr Nicefryday, as you know, has been hardworking in documenting the Kuching scene all this while.  I thank him whole heartedly for willing to contribute to the scene. Pok, kau tulis jak papa bahasa kau mok, aku sikda hal.

I am still looking for a contributor from Sabah who could become a correspondent for the scene there on this blog.  Other than my longterm plans for Kalimantan as well- I have been sending few emails to the contacts that I have get from friends but have not been getting any reply so far.  This community-based blog welcomes any sort of contribution from all of you with the ground rules of no sexism, no racism and no whatever form of discrimination. Already the scene has been discriminated enough that we don’t need to do the same thing among ourselves.

So please continue your support for this blog, for it is meant for ‘our scene’, whatever that means.  I will still be writing, hopefully contributing articles and other sorts of discoveries (downloads etc etc) that I would stumble upon.

In the mean time, if you are interested to be a contributor, please feel free to do so. It is not obligatory- we would not force you at knifepoint to write- but even sending us a flyer of a gig would be great and very much appreciated.  Feel free to email me at agentprovo@gmail.com and my Myspace account, if you know me personally or added me in your friend list.

I have many ideas and great plans years ahead and I can’t wait to come back and continue all the works.

Cheers!

Wan Hazril: Land Below the Wind- Bear Brigade Tour Report

Posted in Reports on May 1, 2009 by Asparagus Alfalfa

Taken from Wan Hazril’s Facebook notes:

Having a bad flu after 4 days trip was a blessed. Its purely satisfaction without any regret. A self meditation after day by day blast. And I feel great.

Strong will to leaving a while the love one and all friends from this city of urgency, heading to somewhere unexpected, we are 14 person in 4 different bands with random different soul, characteristics and feelings but having the same motivation, to meet a new people, love, community and culture.

The sun always shine bright down there in the land below the wind and of course the wind always blow. Thats make the first city we arrived, labuan, different from this city of urgency. And of course everything considered alcohol, and tobacco are superbly fucking cheap. We grab 3 bottles with sum of less than RM 120. And in other part of Malaysia, that will cost more than RM 400. Save up a sum lotsa money and we know its the right places for the people who worship the alcohol.

Then, we heading to kota kinabalu by boat. The fare is quite expensive, RM 34, but cheaper than the aircraft. It feel mysterious using the water lane, when all you can see is the blue blue crystal water. The beer always been there by our side. And to break the boredom, we drink and some were sleeping. And 1 hour before arrive, the excitement begin and we never stop cheering up ourselves with stupid jokes. :)

We arrived there. And riq and eko greeted us with a smile. They are awesome, both studying in K.K but living in other city, Sandakan. Kota kinabalu is the city of restless. Its like the United States and new york, kuala lumpur and semenanjung or indonesia and jakarta. Its the centre of everything. Everybody move there to find a job, study or to move from quiet city. But honestly, it feel more relaxing being in Kota kinabalu rather than this city of urgency. We crammed ourselves inside one room, that is not that big and not that small, just nice. Spent some hours in the big mall, nothing much differ from other mall i’d been before. But one thing that excite me, the meal. The chicken rice is only cost RM 2.80 and that’s like having a breakfast in the east coast penisular, or buying a bombay sapphire in Labuan. Thats fucking nasty!!

Some really close friends and us, heading to Moes studio to rip it out. 2 hours, 4 bands and we having a cool jamming session. It’s a quite well-feeling to blast the tunes in another places far far away from home and its like a practicing mix with finding a warm comfort. And its great to see many friends back again like Agus, Ian, Yuen, Rico that use to stay and meet us before at apartment 104. Not to forget, the menu that day: 1 litre of Bicardi!

Then the best part after the show, we heading to “pasar Phillipines”. And we passing by a load of expensive restaurant, and some bar that exclusively belong to other side of human division. And right beside it was the pasar. It look like a pasar malam but really big pasar malam. The food were cheap. 1 feet ikan tongkol only cost you RM 7. And we eat like cat.

Went back to the hotel, the ritual begin. Some friends bring tanduay and F.Y.I, tanduay is a homebrew local wine that made by the grape if im not mistaken. It taste like malaga or anggur merah. And i have this really fasten blood rush syndrome by drinking this kind of alcohol. And yeah. it works. Its a moment of tense, happiness and everything that nite. Naked is necessity and expressing everything was the real moment. Unless i feel like all the tiredness, in the city of urgency had been released. And meeting other guy like keith, ivan, vojtek, shaun, along, and many more to say was like a gathering of hindu in allah abad or muslim in mecca, or whatever!. But it taste different. This is real deal to my life.

Next morning we heading to Keningau. RM 13. Taking this mini bus. and all crammed inside. Off we go! The perfect soundtrack for this time should be 70’s psychedelic rock, and late 60’s folk rock. Maybe the whole bob dylan songs. But i nearly forget all those good artist, as in my mind only one song can beat em all, SAYANG SAYANG KINABALU. The trip was up and down thru the hillside. This part, I miss my love one the most. And this part I feel like human being always belong to the nature. And the scenery, resting all my tiredness. And when the tiredness gone, I capture the whole perfect and good life. It feel like cumming while drinking! :)

And halfway the trip, the drive stop us at the source of water from the hill. And we taste the water. Its naturally pure. And all those mineral water that been sell like RM 1.50 per bottle is not natural. Trust me!

We arrived Keningau at the noon. 2 hours something journey. Its not that long. But keningau was really a small town. We having a meal and RM 8 tiger beer also was a real deal. It was fantastic. Some small kids selling cheap cigarettes, I grab surya that only cost me RM 3. We headed to the venue after having the meal and it is located at the hillside. The scenery was great as you can see the whole Keningau town from the places. It was a semi abandoned resort but there is still people around that place. But I guess, it used to be a best places to chill and stayed.

The show started and at first we merely cant see many peoples coming. But after two bands played, the venue was packed. And the vibe was very alive. One things about the community and scene. The scene was fresh and not jaded. Many kids willing to share moment and idea and having things to talk about. Compare to the scene in this land of urgency. And I had a chance to meet many new friends sharing idea and story. About culture and setting up community and it feel so electric. Beside having a good time, I can see that they have a strong motivation to set up this break free community at their local town. And, upon my repentance, I should bring more zines and spread more literature to them. This is the things that i felt way back then and it slowly gone in this city of urgency!

We drink some beer, Absolute Vodka and Langkau. That was the king! It turn my set when playing with crimescene so fucking heaven. Seeing many great bands like face of decay, and red revolvers and feeling the aura when playing and watching the intense vibe make the whole show tremendous! Plus the sound system was perfect and great. They have this monitor and full set PA making the whole room blast!

One thing, they dont have much show happen in Sabah. So when it happens. It will be the best moment to the kids around! In this city of urgency, there is too much show and too much bands playing in one show! So yeah, we lost the beauty of the show. Its not all about quantity. Its always about quality.

We leave the places with thousand of happiness. And heading to the hotel in downtown keningau, we are superbly tired.
After meal. We decided to rest. But its like a halfway mission when friends want to continue drinking tanduay till morning. I ended up very drunk. Some guy going to local friends house to drink long house (traditional game) and playing this enjoyable buffalo game, that will end up many people getting naked. And yeah! They are naked! :)

Pretty bad hangover that morning we catch the van back to kota kinabalu. And this gonna be the bad part coz we leaving keningau. And we always want to come back again. We thanks to zul for organizing the show and of course he pay all the tanduay that night.

We leave keningau around 1 pm and have to catch the ferry at jesselton port at 3 pm. So the driver speeding up. It was a roller coaster trip. Thrilling and i still keep singing the sayang sayang kinabalu song to the love one! :)

We arrived the jetty around 2.30 pm and having a meal and meet all the friends back! It was the farewell that we wish not happen. But we have to leave! This is the time when we think that the connection of DIY will never break forever. The willing to help each other, sharing space, sharing energy and many other things!

And off we go to labuan!

Labuan, the last night, thanks to keju for the great hospitality and belanja makan. We ended up buying stack of alcohol, vomit, drunk to the max, Hippies, and i shit while sleeping. ahahah! That was great. Heading back to this city of urgency with shitty pants and the greatest hangover of the year. It was all the representation of the fast modern world that we living in. And people was too depress with their life, work, tiredness, fake, capitalism control and so many other things. In the land below the wind, people still having a faith on culture, breaking free from the setup of the Americana, and speaking upon their own selves. We lack of this in this land of urgency! This is the beginning of all the good feelings!

Thanks to other guys like rizo, comel (dont remember his name), billie, asrul, mi, reza, and so many other person.
ALCOHOL = LOVE! :)

Sibu Damages Report

OK, the poll has shown that many of you wants to read this blog in Sarawak Malay. So those who voted for that should be the ones to write in Sarawak Malay so that there are more content of that language here in this blog. Kamik sik pandei menar mok klaka/tulis Melayu Sarawak. Sik dapat kamik express to the fullest bah mun tulis dalam Melayu Sarawak. Faham sik?

So as you can see from the pics above, in case you don’t know yet even in a small scene gossip circle like ours, we met an accident on the way back from Sibu.  So there are a lot of messiness, bullshit and greed attached with it, though I am glad that none of us were injured- to think about how the accident happened, it could be WORSE.  I am glad how it happened.

Sorry for the late reply, but then again I am not your shitworker to update you with stuffs happening around here.  You should write demmit!  I just came back from another roadtrip, though a bit shaken from the accident that happened at the first roadtrip.  Very busy at the moment with work, so I hoping someone else would write the gig report/tour diary.  Maybe the writer from this blog?

All in we would like to thank Arthur, Haizam and friends (from Radioholic) for organising the gig.  It was nice to establish such network and solidarity among the scenes here in Sarawak or even Borneo.  Good job guys (and gals), all of us in Kuching wish to see all of you again, on different stage, different gig, surely, in the future.

A Short Aftermath Report: Grindcore is Not A Crime gig

Posted in Reports on December 15, 2008 by Asparagus Alfalfa

Mula-mula mau buat poll dulu.. Please vote for your future convenience:

OK, a short report on the Grindcore is Not A Crime gig.  This is, well my first time writing one, but then again there is no textbook method to write a gig report now does it? If you think this suck, you write and send it to me at agentprovo@gmail.com

The gig started late in a typical Malaysian fashion.  And kicked off well after.  Overall it was a great show of talents (not that it mattered) and lots of fun time.  A hiccup happened during Kurasakuasa set, but as the dedicated people from Disharmonic Movement are well backed up, reinforcement equipments were replaced in an orderly fashion.  Both the touring band from Sabah was awesome with their progressive grind.  The guitarist from Aparagonis was setting the place on fire with his Ibanez.  The two masked members of the band was spewing out music like it was Armageddon.  There were a lot of corpse eating, organs haemorrhaging and all sorts of abnormalities involved in the lyrics.  A grossed out event indeed.

Haematoma was really eye opening with their psyched out screaming demon from the deepest belly of hell vocalist and adrenaline charged drummer.  Drummers like that are the reasons why I stopped playing drums, because I looked like the slowed down 1000x version of them when I tried to play.  The Rumpang guy too.  So is the drummer from Traitor.  Demmit.  I am picking up trumpet next.  So no one can be compared to me. Sigh.

Anyhow here is some picture that I manage to capture from the gig.  Don’t blame me if you’re not in the pic, SEND ME SOME! And I will upload it accordingly.  I hate to sound like a broken record, but you guys could contribute to make this blog better.  I need all of you (and it is supposed to be a community based blog).  In a chronological order (once again there is no preference of anything- or in the words of Dayang Atiqah, the impressive Kedai Fhutu expert;

Fhutu-fhutu telah di-mozek-kan (here: di letakkan) mengikut nafsu aku & para kugiran telah dipilih secara rawak sahaja. Tiada sebarang unsur perkauman, ekstrimis, aktivis, agama, jantina, sapa hemsem, sapa paling taf, sapa paling banyak tatu, sapa banyak ear lobes, & sewaktu dengannya… Harap maklum.

Few unidentified poseur posing before the event.  Of course, the equipments are not turned on, for they might get themselves electrocuted from their lack of experience in operating such powerful machinery.

cimg3380_resize

Still not turned on.

cimg3385_resize

The usual ruckus was started by the man identified with a cap and brown T-shirt above.

cimg3386_resize

Again, the man in brown Tshirt.  This time, showing some offensive gesture, further provoking the crowd.

cimg3391_resize1

Some unidentified gig goers taking refuge at the alley outside the studio, badly injured from the Grindcore attack happening inside the studio.  Paramedic is nowhere to be found.

What’s happening inside the studio.  Grind army from the Incisor Batallion.

On a serious note: the woman who have worked hard in making the gig a successful, among others who have worked behind the scenes, Miss Lala.  Not in the picture: Daus, the wannabe bouncer.  (Like, seriously dude, who is he scaring?).

cimg3400_resize

More victims from the grind attack taking refuge.  Paramedics is still, nowhere to be found. The smiling expression is from the emergency morphine provided to the soldiers to withstand unbearable pain.

Reza, from Aparagonis: After.

Reza, with the mysterious masked warrior handling a mean machine.  It was said that once a mere mortal tried to handle the machine onwed by the warrior has gone crazy, unable to cope with the power wielded by the six stringed widow maker.

cimg3442_resize

Psychotic roar from the last battalion attacking the Kuching DIY scene, also from the next kingdom.  The bone chilling Haematoma batallion, finishing the last remaining survivors.

Fuh.  Penat upload gambar-gambar ni.

In the immortal words of Ella: Hope you all Enjoyyyssss!!

Muaxx!

P/S: if for some crazy reasonyou missed this gig and would like to catch both Aparagonis and Haematoma in action, you can checkout their next apperance in the highly anticipated Extreme Splattered Music Fest this end of December at KK.

Sorry that the pictures are of such low quality, I am not an ‘urban-hipster-fashionista-DSLR toting photographer’ (though I would love to have one of those sweet camera, don’t get me wrong).

Zass!
