Sehati Sejiwa Gig

The first collaboration between all the collectives in Kuching, though I couldn’t say that Midin Distro did much (anything).

The touring band headlining this gig: A Million Evil Faces from Sabah.

Supporting bands:

Happily Ever After
N.O.T.E.S.
United Kids of Oi!
Tricks4Kids
Traitor
Escape the Plainview
Kurasakuasa
Restart
Destruction Zero
Mayze

Date: 2nd May 2009
Time: 2 p.m. onwards
Venue: Disharmonic Studio, Kuching Centerpoint
Admission: RM 5.00

Could not get the formatting that I want in this post as I am updating from a noisy cyber cafe at Papar. Will do the tweaking on this post soon once I reach Kuching. The Bear Brigade tour gig was awesome, will do a report on it, if I feel like it.

Laters bros and sis.

UPDATE 2: Additional info from Akhdan (ad verbatim):

RICHIE – 016 8206 865

ZUL – 012 8231 615

Tolong kongsi cadangan ini.
terima kasih

Bibliopunk invading Band Xplosion!

Posted in Bibliopunk, Events, Midin Records on December 5, 2008 by Asparagus Alfalfa

A short update.

Maybe.  Details on the event on this flyer here.  Which supposed to be featuring Butterfinger, Bunkface, Evenstarr and United Kids of Oi!

If I could get a transport because there are lots of books to lug.  And maybe I would also just hangout outside so that more kids could benefit from the books and ‘zines. Plus I can’t afford to go in anyway.

Spent last night wrapping the Bibliopunk library’s books to lengthen its’ lifespan. I have a new addition to the books, this is also one of my favourite:

dictionary_alternatives_new

The Dictionary of Alternatives,

by Martin Parker, Valérie Fournier and Patrick Reedy

Zed Books 2007

There are many entries on various types of ‘alternatives’- various Utopias, alternative community/lifestyle/politics- most of the terms that you read in some ‘zines or alternative press.  You can be an instant expert!  Easy to read with simple language and considerable length for all idealists (without cynicism here) like yourself out there. Read the review here.

zinegeekmidin_color_resized

Of course, Midin Distro would also juxtapose itself somewhere around the venue of the event. Kuchingites! Bear in mind this would be the last time some of the stuff to be seen in Kuching. We will travel up to Sibu after this and later I would pass the stuff to Eric of Mutasi Distro to be brought over to Sabah. If you have always wanted anything from the distro list I urge you to make your purchase, before all the stuffs being swept clean.

Graphic stolen from: Ediciones Hormiga Libertaria blog

(UPDATE: Um, grammatical error: the caption should read: Put the Book Down! Lack of English proficiency of the author is regrettable. Don’t be misled kids. Too lazy to reedit.. )

Yes, well, technically we are not invading, but more like given a place. So we decide to cheer it up with a bit of good books for free reading, good ‘zines both for reading and for purchase, and the usual CD’s and tapes.  There are some DIY limited edition Kurasakuasa, Restart and Mutasi Distro T-shirt will be on sale too! And then some. Hope to see you there amidst ‘urban-artsy fartsy-yuppie-philanthropist-performer’ group. Do dropby our booth/table (the fact is I don’t know how it’ll look like.

Among accessible literature available tomorrow (SELECTED HIGHLIGHTS):

Crimethinc literature:

More info: Crimethinc website.

crimethinc_recipie_med

Recipe for Disaster: An Anarchist Cookbook. Let’s just say that this book has a lot of useful and fun recipes that we all could try. An essential reference for all the aspiring activists/direct actioneers out there!

evasiongallery1

Evasion. A vegan/anarchist (though the author would’t like much of the labels). Scamming through the system. Adventures ensues. ‘Nuff said.

Other Punk/Hardcore Books

dance-of-days

Dance of Days: Two Decades of Punk in the Nation’s Capital by Mark Andersen and Mark Jenkins.

History book of the things that you (might) like! Presumably, if you are reading this blog. It’s about the scene in D.C. That’s what I can tell you. You have to read it yourself.

day-the-country-die

The Day the Country Died: The History of Anarcho Punk 1980-1984 by Ian Glasper.

Um.. It’s about.. The history of the emergence of anarcho punk bands like Crass. To be honest, I haven’t read it (and the book above) yet. Why don’t you read it and tell me.

‘Zines (for sale[*] and reading):

morgenmuffle-15-cover

Morgenmuffle*: A cool comic ‘zine from UK femayle punk person (PC enough?). Lots of cool stories, cool illustrations. Though this is from 2 years ago, the stories are evergreen (pun intended) and inspiring. You can also read it online/print it yourself at: Morgenmuffle Zine website. A must read for all the punx riot Grrls out there!

btbw

Beyond the Barbed Wire #3* (1 copy only): One of the more progressive and well-organised ‘zine which are my personal favourite (but then again, all the ones I displayed here are my personal selected ‘zines that I really like). It is edited by Tremor, who are also doing lots of other wonderful things alongside other comrades in Bandung. There are many crucial issue in the Indonesia scene discussed here, notably Marjinal issue and the raid at Ultimus bookstore at Bandung which has been heavily discussed. Eye opening indeed. Lots of good writings here, in Bahasa Indo. More info: Myspace page.

avow-17

AVOW #17*. It’s very unfortunate that I couldn’t get anymore issues of AVOW ‘zine, one of the great fiction/autobiographical collection of short stories by Keith Rosson. I have always been a fan of his writings with his endless humour and wit. You will be left laughing your bowels out. There are many nice illustrations too! Do not miss this!

More on AVOW ‘zine here.

Various back issues of:

Slug & Lettuce, Profane Existence, HeartattacK, Maximum Rock n’ Roll, other Crimethinc ‘zines. And then some, too many to list out here.

See you there!

Gig: War All The Time at Kota Kinabalu (Beaufort) Sabah 27 Nov ‘08

Posted in Events, Midin Records on November 24, 2008 by Asparagus Alfalfa

watt_tour_08

Anyone have the local flyers?

Yes, UK Crust oldtimers War All the Time (WATT) will be at Beaufort this 27th, in fact this weekend itself. I have heard about the tour and I did ask whether the band was interested to stop by Kuching for a show. It was promptly replied by WATT’s vocalist, Rob. Unfortunately they couldn’t squeeze time for Kuching. Go to Beaufort then! Gig details will be uploaded soon when (and if) I get the details.

Cheers!

P/S: For the time being, to mend the wound of being unable to attend the show, or if you simply want to check out how WATT sounds like, Midin Distro still have four copies of War at all time’s Discography CD going for RM 10.00, release by Cactus Records.

watt-discography Review (taken from Cactus Distro website):

War All the Time is a millenium band. They started since few years back, but this band consist of people that put their hard into hardcore punk DIY scene for ages. They play simply Totalitär, Mob 47 Swedish hardcore band but put it on in their own way. A mied up feeling of UK crust and Swedish crust, do it in great direction. Sned of Flat Earth Records do played drum for this band and Flat Earth is a label that is most respectable for me and other member do played in various good UK band like Boxed Inn, Hellhazard, Kito etc. And compile all the songs from their first 7″ s/t release under Yellow Dog, split 7″ with the Horror, and the last 7″ plus two unreleased songs. 17 songs overall. This is a good band from a great people.

Work harder people! Network! Write those emails now!
