Hello peeps!

Just wanna share a new documentary by not one, but TWO sociologists (sikit bangga atas alasan saya sendiri) about the straightedge lifestyle culture. I know it would appeal to some of you out there. Personally, I drink and I smoke but I have no problem with people who wants to live a positive life. We are all entitled to the life of our own choosing anyway. No one should impose what their values on others, if you ask me. So wait for the Rapidshare or Torrent to be available.

For more info on the documentary: HERE.

And I love it when there is an effort like these for documentation- all the works being done by our local writers, photographers, bloggers, videoman/womyn, ‘zinesters. I think we all have our part to play in the scene and we do whatever we like and we could to contribute. Not only by being in a band that we are in the scene, right? I mean, that’s the whole meaning of a collective effort right? Especially in a small, sometimes ostracized scene.

So I would like to renew my invitation:

Kalau korang ada benda yang nak share, ada rilisan baru yang boleh (dan nak) di review, boleh forwardkan pada saya. Saya tak pandai nak mereview, tapi ada rakan-rakan baik saya yang sedia untuk memberi komen dan pendapat. You can contact me by leaving a message here, or email me at agentprovo@gmail.com. Tiada masalah. Asparagus Alfalfa sedia membantu.

Keep up the good work! Keep doing what you are doing. Keep on keeping on!

GO check them out!!

Download/Watch: Punkcast!

Posted in Downloads, Interesting, Videos on September 17, 2009 by Asparagus Alfalfa

punks-not-dead

Well, punkcast is a portmanteau from the word punk and podcast is basically a documentation effort of the underground NYC scene. And it’s available for downloads! A few that I like: it has Kimya Dawson of Moldy Peaches, Tiny Masters of Today, Yeah Yeah Yeahs- all live performances! I suspect this would be the breeding ground of the hip and upcoming ‘cool’ bands- Effi Briest, TV on the Radio, Art Brut, Love is All, Pedro the Lion, the oldskools- TV Smith and Attila the Stockbroker, The Exploited, The Adicts, The Business, GBH, UK Subs, The Libertines (not THAT old la) etc etc etc. It’s like a place where the old and the young meet and exchange notes. A nice place indeed.

Kudos!  I will also place a link here on the right navigation bar.

DIY: Simple video on screenprint

Posted in Events, Interesting, Projects on January 31, 2009 by Asparagus Alfalfa

As with whole the Do It Yourself (DIY) ethos in our underground/punk/hardcore/etc etc scene, I here post a video that I find useful in presenting the methods of the art of printing in such simplistic manner.  As there are also many who asked me before this and some stating the intention to learn the method from me, I embed this video here so that all of you out there could jumpstart your experimentation.  Here it goes:

Most of the things could be obtain from art supplies stores.  At KL I got it from a shop callVenus Art somewhere along Petaling Street  but it was closed when I went there yesterday.  As a result, I got a jar (1 kilogramme) of the photo emulsion (that’s the blue coloured liquid that 5t311a spread on the silkscreen) for RM 20.00 Brand: Fairbro at a shop called Art Friend at the Gardens- the new Midvalley wing.  My friend told me that there are some place at Cheras where they sell it for cheaper.  At Kuching, the only shop I know so far is Technografik at Satok, but I am pretty sure there is always a not-so-well-known shop somewhere that would sell it way cheaper, at wholesale price.  Will be glad if anyone of you out there could share where to source the things, including the dye, the silk etc, at a cheaper price- be it at KL, Kuching, Sarawak, KK or Sabah, or anywhere in Malaysia.

Get productive and start your own T-shirt printing project today!

One last note; most of the things that you need to use to make this are easily available around your environment for e.g. the frame of your block (some even say that you could use normal cloth to replace the synthetic silk- I haven’t experiment with that yet.  Recycle rather than buying the bulk of things to start it without an certainty on your capital invested will bear any fruit.  And most of all, remember to have fun.

Yes yes yes yes, we will have a band from Australia called Not OK here on 20th February with a mad supporting electro act by a one man band who call himself mindfuckingboy.  So, you can start making your stuffs to be sold at the gig later- we will provide some space for distros- who are always welcomed!

Checkout the upcoming acts here:

Yes yes yes yes, the flyers will be up very very soon!

The Dark Lord Of Logos

Posted in Interesting on November 21, 2008 by Asparagus Alfalfa

Stumbled upon this..

It’s an interview with this guy who have produced tonnes of Metal logos for various bands, Christophe Szpajdel. He was interviewed by the Vice magazine online… Checkout the cool slide show of all the logos he had designed at the link below..

Vice: So, Christophe Szpajdel, we hear that you’re the master of black-metal logos. But who are you, really?

Christophe: I am 37 years old, I come from Belgium but I live in Exeter, Devon, in the UK. In the last 20 years I have drawn more than 7,000 logos, mostly for black- and death-metal bands from all over the world, including Emperor, Moonspell, Nachtmystium, and Enthroned.

So do you sit alone by candlelight in the uppermost chamber of a castle and draw sinister things all night?

No. Besides drawing logos, I am a forestry engineer and I have a regular job as a customer-service assistant in retail. I need a job to support my artistic activity….
